The president of Nigeria assented to the Nigerian Ports Economic Regulatory Agency Act 2026 on 13 August 2026. The Act repeals the Nigerian Shippers’ Council Act, creates NPERA as the dedicated ports economic regulator, and introduces binding tariff bands, mandatory filing of charges, entry and search powers as well as administrative penalties, blacklisting and a 1% freight fee on imports.
